The anguish of loneliness
In a long dark night,
The ring of the phone call is
The glimmer of light.
A single rose
Fills my garden,
A single friend
Makes my world bright.
Friendship does not
Need any words,
It only needs to know
Your heart right.
The day has passed
Without a word from you,
So many calls unanswered
I could not get through.
The night is dark,
And the wind silent,
As the radio is playing
The sad tune of blue.

I DIED for beauty, but was scarce
Adjusted in the tomb,
When one who died for truth was lain
In an adjoining room.
He questioned softly why I failed?
“For beauty,” I replied.
“And I for truth,—the two are one;
We brethren are,” he said.
And so, as kinsmen met a night,
We talked between the rooms,
Until the moss had reached our lips,
And covered up our names.
